ABD's Brian Hetherington joins WBN as a new Board Member

SAN FRANCISCO, April 24, 2014--Worldwide Broker Network™, the world's largest fully integrated network of independent property and casualty brokers and employee benefits consultants, today announced that Markham McKnight, president of BancorpSouth Insurance Services, Inc., has become WBN’s 14th Chairman of the Board, succeeding Florian Karle, Managing Partner of Suedvers Gruppe, Au bei Freiburg, Germany.  

At the opening of its Global Partners Conference in Denver today, WBN expanded its board of directors to include three new members, two of whom are employee benefits experts from member firms in Belgium and Scotland. The additions bring the WBN board to 4 representatives from Europe, 5 from North America, 2 from Central and South America, 3 from AsiaPacific and 1 from Middle East/Africa, as well as three representing Employee Benefits and a Corporate Secretary.

Markham McKnight

McKnight was chairman of the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers in 2008. He has been a leading commercial insurance executive for three decades, serving as executive vice president of Wright & Percy Insurance, one of Louisiana's oldest and largest insurance agencies, from 1982-1994, and president and CEO of Wright & Percy Insurance from 1994 to 2005. BancorpSouth Bank, a subsidiary of BancorpSouth, Inc., acquired Wright & Percy in 2003. He has served as President of Bancorp South Insurance since 2005. He has an MBA from Louisiana State University, serves as treasurer of the Louisiana Insurance Guaranty Association [by appointment of the Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance], and is a member of the board of directors of the American Bankers Insurance Association.

New Board Members

Joining the 19-member WBN board are:

Alan Fergusson is Employee Benefits Director Kudos Financial Services (Part of Mattioli Woods PLC), headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, with 5 office locations throughout the United Kingdom. Fergusson has 16 years experience in Employee Benefits leading the Employee Benefits division across the Group and forming and delivering strategy at PLC Board level.

Brian M. Hetherington is Chief Executive Officer  & Co-Chairman of ABD Insurance & Financial Services, headquartered in San Mateo, California. He came to the insurance industry in 2003 following a successful career with technology companies.  The new ABD is now 150 employees and works with over 3,500 clients ranging in size from start-up to Fortune 500.  He also currently serves as a Board Member-Western Region of the Insurance Industry Charitable Fund.

Dirk Van Liempt is chief executive officer of ADD NV, headquartered in Heverlee, Belgium.  He was appointed ADD’s chief executive officer in June 2013 as part of a broader internal change in the structure of the insurance arm of the KBC Group.  During his career, he has worked both nationally and internationally in the insurance sector, including as Senior General Manager–Life & Pension Business of KBC Insurance. Since 2008, he has also been a Member of the Board of Directors of Assuralia, the Belgian federation of insurance companies.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2014, WBN has grown from 9 firms in Western Europe to nearly 100 firms spanning the globe and serving clients through approximately 500 offices on all six inhabited continents.  These generally are the largest independently owned firms in their respective markets, providing the highest degree of client service to both insurance and employee benefits clients.
